Information and Engagement Officer

The Education and Engagement Branch engages with individuals, organisations and communities and provides tailored and innovative information, education, and consultancy services. They provide digital information and education, face to face training and consultancy, community capacity building and workplace solutions that reduce discrimination, overcome systemic and attitudinal barriers, and incorporate a human rights-based approach to service delivery and decision making.

About the role

The Information and Engagement team sits within the Education and Engagement Branch, and the Information and Engagement Officer is part of this team and Branch. The Information and Engagement Officer works closely with the Senior Advisor, Human Rights Information and Enquiries, to provide a legal information, referral and triaged enquiry service, to deliver targeted and strategic community education sessions and community engagement activities, and to assist with continuous improvement of service delivery.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • provide accurate and timely information via telephone, email, web chat and letter on the equal opportunity, human rights and vilification legislation and the full range of the Commission’s activities and services
  • prepare correspondence to individuals, community groups and organisations responding to enquiries about the Commission’s laws, roles and services
  • provide authoritative information and referral to external bodies in relation to matters outside of the Commission’s jurisdiction
  • contribute to community engagement activities including assisting in delivering information sessions about the Commission’s laws and services

About you

As our ideal candidate you will possess:

  • proven experience in the provision of information services, preferably within a statutory framework
  • knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission and its legislation, or capacity to quickly gain this knowledge
  • demonstrating engagement skills using a variety of approaches to inform, collaborate and involve communities and organisations.
