For organisations

Organisations have a number of responsibilities that are set out in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 and federal anti-discrimination laws. The Commission can work with you to help you meet your legal obligations and develop policies to prevent discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying in your organisation.

Obligations to your staff

What are my obligations to prevent change or suppression practices?

Changing or suppressing someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity is unlawful

Reports about these practices can be made to the Commission and may lead to facilitation between those involved, targeted education or further investigation. Organisations and groups can be held liable for the actions of staff and volunteers if they cannot show that they have taken reasonable precautions to prevent someone engaging in a change or suppression practice.
